Before anyone lived there, the island had no name, roads, or homes. Mello discovered it after years of wandering from place to place. He built the first house near a freshwater spring and lit a lantern each night for passing travelers. At first, he was unsure how long he would stay. But as the seasons changed, he slowly stopped wondering where he would go next.

The lantern eventually drew other travelers to the island. Some came looking for work, while others needed somewhere to begin again. Fishers settled near The Cove, merchants gathered along the canal, and families built homes below the hills. The freshwater spring became a shared meeting place, and its stone basin later became the fountain in Town Square.

As more residents arrived, the settlement grew into Mellow Village, Market Canal, The Lookout, and Friendship Garden. Each place developed around the needs and traditions of the people living there. Together, they named their home Mellow Island. The name did not mean life was always peaceful. It meant they had created a place where people could move at their own pace and belong without having everything figured out.
